Choosing a makeup look to complement Charlize Theron’s radiant red Dior Oscars gown was relatively easy for artist Francesca Tolot. Red lips was never an option (“that would be the last thing I would want to do with a red dress!”) — the makeup expert is all about Theron’s bright blue eyes. Likewise, the actress’ own “essence” was the inspiration for her hair, according to stylist Enzo Angileri.
“I chose to do a smoky eye, but soft and using warm tones like browns and rust and a little bit of gold,” says Tolot, who looked to a duo of Dior products — 5 Couleurs Eyeshadow Palette in #795 ($62) and a dusting of Mono Eyeshadow in #573 ($31) on her lids and under her eyebrows — to accomplish the sexy look.
Tolot blended everything beautifully so the ultimate effect was soft and far from harsh or overpowering. Adding to that feminine aesthetic was a whisper thin application of transparent Dior Addict Milky Tint Lip Fluid in Milky Plum (out in May). “I wanted it all to go together without having one part of her stand out, although I did want the eyes to stand out in a soft way.”
As for her blonde locks, Angileri went with a pulled-back, minimalist ‘do that enhanced her statuesque beauty. First, he applied Wella Professionals EIMI Root Shoot ($18) mousse to the lengths of Theron’s deeply side-parted hair, and “molded the classic suave wave style.” A routine of blow-drying with and without a diffuser, and curling with plenty of hairspray followed. For the final step, Angileri applied a bit of Wella Professionals EIMI Just Brilliant on her whole head to give the star that sleek polish and shine.
